I downloaded a $4 iPad app called “The GigEasy.” It imports PDF versions of music so you can read them on the iPad. For a mere $120, a Bluetooth page turning system is available but I’ll pass on that for now.
After figuring out how to load the music (not difficult; I went to DropBox and found my PDFs and then chose ‘open with’ to select Gig Easy) I started digging into the program. One feature I liked immediately was having a built in metronome that can flash the tempo. This will come in handy for rehearsing and maybe even performing. There are annotation features for writing in the inevitable changes and a set list function for getting the charts in order.
The thing I’m most excited about is the organizational aspect. I have a folder of music and set lists that I can never keep straight. Some are taped together but there are many loose pages that always seem to get shuffled at the most inconvenient time. I’m hoping The GigEasy will free me from that ever growing pile of paper!
