Ho – Made Ice Cream part 2: Chocolate

For almost 20 years I’ve kept an ice cream recipe from an old Esquire magazine. The article tells of Harry Cipriani’s Venetian gelato and proclaims it the “best damn chocolate ice cream in the world.” I think this might be the case. I made it last night with my new ice cream maker. Here’s the recipe if you want to play along.

It didn’t really set up in the ice cream maker and that concerns me, seeing as how I let it spin for forty minutes. On the other hand, I didn’t let the batter cool down much. It really needs to sit in the fridge for an hour or two but dang it, I was impatient! I put the resulting very soft gelato in the freezer and plan on eating it tonight. There will be no leftovers…chocolate gelato
