And we're back! It's late in the year my friends and Christmas concerts are in the works. This brings me to a subject that I'm fond of: Gon Bop Gongas (sometime called Gungas.) Is anyone else using these cool instruments? I have had mine for quite a few years. They are congas that are sawed off with a collapsible resonator that comes out of the bottom. The sound is like congas with a djembe bass tone. They also go nicely into a singe tom-tom case! Here's a photo:  This pic is from a Crossings Concert show from Dec. 18th. There were a lot of great artists on it, among them Erin Bode, a MaxJazz recording artist whom I suspect might go far. |
